Human Design is an extremely complex and versatile system, which can be approached in all possible ways. It offers us a unique vision of our society and of ourselves. By overcoming my preconceived ideas about the origins of the system, I was able to dive into a magical universe that I want to share with you today!
Basically, I am always curious when I come across a new system in personal and spiritual development. I'm curious, but also cautious: I need to see for myself what it brings me. I assume that everything is not black and white, but rather in shades of grey. So I started my discovery of Human Design for myself, in order to better understand myself and see how this information intersected with what I had already experienced/learned. It was later, when I started to use it in my business, that I began to wonder about my vision of Human Design.
What did I really want to bring to my clients, my readers, and the world? Why does this system seem important to me to share?
By putting into words my feelings, my own experience and my desires, I was able to refine my vision of Human Design and the way I wanted to transmit it.
« Who is this ‘true self’ —the private inner being that hides behind the mask it wears for most public interactions, that real person we are when stripped of our ego and acts of social graces aimed at winning respect, approval or popularity ? »
Chetan Parkyn
Before explaining my vision, let's go back to the basics: what is Human Design (HD)?
Human Design is a system of self-understanding based on the celestial mandala. It is a map of the sky made up of gates and lines. Our design is created through our birth information, which determines the position of the planets at the time of our birth and 88 days before, when we incarnate (or scientifically, when our neo-cortex forms).
When you enter your data into a calculator, you will end up with a Bodygraph, like the one you see just below. From these elements, the HD practitioners will determine your Type, your Authority, your Profile, etc.
The richness of this system lies in its flexibility and volume of information. There is something for all tastes and visions, if you remain open-minded and open-hearted. It draws on a lot of different knowledge and sources, as it combines Eastern and Western astrology, the Sephiroth of the Kabbalah, the chakra system, the Chinese I'Ching, the hexagrams and quantum physics (with the concept of neutrinos). It is therefore a very powerful composite tool.
Now let me tell you why I think Human Design is particularly interesting, both in terms of understanding ourselves individually and collectively.
Human Design can be summarised in three points:
Human Design is said to be a science of differentiation. One considers that the world is in constant transformation through our actions and vibrations. The more we are in our essence, the higher we vibrate, and the more aligned and in tune with our authenticity we are. However, this essence is different for each of us. If Human Design talks about Types, Authorities or Profiles, it tells us that we are unique beings: a compilation of all this information. And this is what makes it a very powerful tool in my opinion. It doesn't try to lock us into boxes, but to show us avenues that we can choose to explore or not, which means that even if we are born on the same day, at the same time, at the same minute, in the same place, we will be different. Because our lives are different, our experiences, our parents, our environment, our conditioning, our beliefs are different. This is why we talk about differentiation: the "boxes" give us indications about our internal functioning and possible interactions with others, but are by no means obligations to follow.
What I find great about this system is its versatility. Since it was channelled by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, it has continued to evolve and transform. It is truly a system that feeds on our sensitivities and our choices. There is no right or wrong way to do Human Design as everyone will appropriate the information, test it, experiment with it and create something new. So I encourage you to look at all the sources, all the teachers you can find on the subject, and consciously choose the approaches that speak to you the most. I see this fabulous complexity as a gift, a way to link this system to all areas of our lives. It is also an incredible freedom to take what we want and build our own understanding of ourselves.
For me, Human Design is a mapping of our understanding of ourselves, and through this understanding, of our relationships with others and the world. It is really a tool, material to think about and experiment with. As I said above, Human Design is not a dogma or something that must be followed to the letter. It is a set of guidelines that may or may not resonate with us. By appropriating it, by experimenting, you will build your own version of it. Like a map, it shows you the field of possibilities, but does not compel you to follow a particular path. It is up to you to take the one you want!
The most important thing, in my opinion, is the posture we adopt towards this system - and this is true for all systems, not just Human Design. If you want to get into this fabulous Human Design adventure, here are some tips on how to get the most out of it.
When you encounter Human Design, the first thing that can confuse you is its esoteric and "woowoo" origins. I think it's very important not to get caught up in this vision, which can seem dogmatic, even sectarian. As I said earlier, I think the world is grey, all nuances, and so is Human Design. Don't stop at "boxes", taking the Strategy, Type, etc. literally. It is also important not to see Human Design as a system that will solve all your problems. It won't make you a millionaire in a week, or help you find your soul mate tomorrow. On the other hand, it is a great way to get to know yourself better and to reassure yourself about the behaviours that you may have naturally, but that you repress because of your beliefs or your fears!
When you decide to do a reading, to read a book on Human Design or to watch videos on the subject, here is what I advise you to do.
To sum up, Human Design is a map of self-understanding that allows us to refine our exploration of ourselves, identifying our beliefs, fears and emotions in a holistic vision of our Being. Our design is like a map of ourselves, a blueprint of who we are. And like any map or blueprint, we don't have to look at it or follow a set path: we have information that we are free to use or leave out.
